What is an
ACE-Aware Childcare Organization?

An ACE-Aware childcare organization recognizes the profound impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on a child's development.

ACEs—such as abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction—are strongly linked to challenges in mental health, physical health, and life outcomes.

By fostering safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed environments, ACE-Aware organizations prioritize relational connections and strategies proven to mitigate these effects.

Why it Matters

ACEs research, championed by organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, ACEs Aware, and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), reveals the lasting impact of childhood trauma. Studies from the CDC and these organizations show correlations between high ACE scores and:

#1

Increased likelihood of emotional and behavioral difficulties.

#2

Challenges in academic success and peer relationships.

#3

Long-term physical and mental health risks beginning in childhood.

The Power of Early Intervention

Extensive research highlights the transformative societal and economic advantages of investing in early childhood programs. These initiatives not only enhance the well-being of children and families but also yield long-term benefits by reducing healthcare costs, increasing educational achievement, and breaking cycles of poverty and trauma.

By addressing developmental needs during critical early years, these programs lay the foundation for healthier communities and a more resilient, productive society.

For every $1 spent on early intervention, communities save $7 in future costs related to health care, incarceration, and welfare.

Family

Children Are Especially Vulnerable.

ACEs can profoundly disrupt a child’s emotional, cognitive, and social development during their formative years.

Support Changes Lives.

Early, trauma-informed care helps children build resilience, manage emotions, and form secure, lasting attachments.

Safe Environments Are Key.

Consistent, stable surroundings provide the foundation children need to heal from trauma and thrive.

Relationships Build Strength.

Supportive, caring adults act as a buffer, helping children navigate and overcome the negative effects of ACEs.

Now That You Know, Take Action: Support the IMPACT Center

“Adverse Childhood Experiences are remarkably common. What is uncommon is their recognition or acknowledgment.”

Dr. Vincent Felitti,

Co-Author of the ACE Study

Every day, children and families in our community face the challenges of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)—challenges that, left unaddressed, can have a lifelong impact on health, education, and relationships.
